There was a time when being an Alpha for the second time would have seemed marvelous; maybe almost a blessing. That time would have been a time for change; a time to prove that something could be done better the second time around if everything failed the first time. That time would have been used to make use of a certain power, a power unlike any other; a power that could change the world of wolves forever. But that time was not now. That time was hidden away in the chambers of a mind, never to come to life.
Were the reins really in these paws once more? How long had it been since this had last happened? It had been at least, what, 100 years? Maybe a little more. In fact, it was a little more. How long exactly, he did not know. He didn't know a lot of anything, anymore. Though he was wise beyond belief, he rarely put his wisdom to use. That would need to change sooner rather than later; especially now. Would he be able to do it, or would he fail terribly once more? He wasn't sure. He wasn't sure of a lot of things. All he had with him were his thoughts and his memories; memories he would rather do without.
He didn't need the constant reminder that he no longer had anything. Kali was dead, as far as he knew, and his children were long gone like their mother. It was what he figured, anyway. He wasn't bothered by the fact that Kali was dead. They hadn't been anything special when they last spoke. He had no idea what had happened with his three sons but frankly, he didn't care. He sometimes caught himself wondering about Michiko; she definitely had to be dead by now. He never found out where she went. She never did come back.
And now, here he was. He never left, but he was never really here to begin with. The land was now divided with packs scattered around. Things had changed but everything had to change at some point in life, and that included himself. It would be an understatement to say that he had changed. He needed to get over it. The past was in the past and it would remain that way. It wouldn't come back to change his life. It wasn't coming back at all. What's done was done. There was no changing it. With a low, quiet murmur, the second-time Alpha placed himself at the edge of the bluffs and stared out into the horizon.
Was he really capable of doing this a second time?

Her head was slightly lowered; her light-blue eyes were staring intently at the ground as though if something interesting was going to happen. She took a deep breath and pinned her ears back upon her head. She stumbled slightly, for she wasn’t paying attention to where she was going. She grinded her teeth together and shook her head pushing her head upward, squinting her eyes against the harsh glare of the sun before she continued on walking – although she wasn’t quite sure were she was headed. She staggered along, practically dragging herself there; she looked weak – pitiful as if she could drop upon the ground any second; dead. However that wasn’t going to happen. Because, you see, she couldn’t die.
This was not how things were supposed to turn out. Her life was supposed to be perfect. She deserved the best, she knew that, her family knew it – and it was perfect at first, but then….right before her eyes her life was turned upset down and now here she was pathetic and pitiful. The great Breeze Nightwind had been turned into this. Why did this happen? Why did this have to happen to her? She slammed her eyelids shut and took a deep breath, because life was cruel, she was taught that from day one – but she didn’t think it was going to happen to her.
She lifted her head up more, her soft blue eyes shimmering slightly. She stood up straight and walked with what dignity she had left. She was completely broken. She had been hurt – but she would never admit it – but she wasn’t about to give up now on life. She was the daughter of two of the most known wolves in the world – she was the mate of Riztic a wolf who murdered thousands and the mother of famous cannibal Jabez - Her silver fur commented her body as she walked, her old self beginning to show through, but she still wasn’t as beautiful as she used to be, back in the old days.
It was their fault! Kisha and Jabez, if it wasn’t for them then her life would have been great. Because of Kisha all her mate Riztic saw was her – he paid more attention to his ex-mate then he did to the beautiful Breeze, oh how she hated her. Then Jabez, her son had to go around and kill his own father. She had spent some long years looking for revenge, but now that revenge seems to be just an empty cup, nothing could come out of it – no longer satisfaction. There was no point, so she decided to leave it alone and try to forget her past, but she couldn’t, no matter how hard she tried, it was impossible.
It wasn’t long until her eyes landed upon the Alpha. Breeze snorted somewhat, she didn’t mind living in this pack, after all she was beta, but she couldn’t help, but wish for more. She was selfish, and she wouldn’t deny it one bit. She wandered a bit closer, her small frame seemed even more pathetic compared to Kaige’s height, but she remained tall as she dipped her head and lowered her tail. She may have looked weak, but she was a fighter, and she would keep on fighting forever.
She lifted her head up slightly. “Kaige.” She said in a slow soft whisper as she sat down upon the ground, wrapping her tail around herself. Which was a family habit.

'This was a mistake and you know it. Do you really think you're capable of running a pack?' Speaking to himself in the depths of his mind was something Kaige often did, especially during times like this. He knew that by not being confident things wouldn't go as smoothly as he would like them to. He needed to drop this... act and get on with it. He couldn't be overrun by the others. Failure was not an option; not this time.
Forcing himself away from the negative thoughts that circled throughout his mind, Kaige pushed his large frame up quickly; almost too quickly, causing him to stumble slightly. Sitting by the very edge of the bluffs almost proved to be a mistake. Unfortunately for him, if he were to fall off, he wouldn't die. 'Stupid...' he thought, feeling slightly irritable for no particular reason. He was about to turn around and be on his way when he felt the presence of someone else, soon hearing the voice that belonged to the owner.
'What now?' he wondered silently, having lost his thoughts for a brief amount of time. "Oh, er.. hello.. Breeze," he finally replied, his voice sounding rough. 'What a nice way to greet someone,' he thought in his mind, eyeing the only Beta he had warily. He shook himself mentally, pulling himself together. No more dwelling on the past; it was a bad habit. "Anything going on?" he asked, partially doubting that there wouldn't be any intriguing news. The pack was rather new, after all.

Breeze blinked a few times, watching her Alpha for a few moments, before he replied to her. She wasn’t sure if she was distracting him or not. It wasn’t as if she planned on talking to him, she was just exploring and just happened to run into him. She shrugged her shoulders and decided it wasn’t best to just wonder about it, she wasn’t something to fret over little things. Her expression didn’t change (It was in-between a frown and a smirk – if that is even possible) She took a deep breath, before she looked back to Kaige.
“Nothing really, just wandering around...” She said her voice trailing off. There really wasn’t anything going on, there weren’t too many wolves in the pack, but it was a good start, she supposed. “There really isn’t much to do anyway, eh.” She said with a slight shrug of her shoulders. She spent the last few days lost in thought, lost in memories, mostly because there wasn’t anything else to do, but it wasn’t as if she wanted it. She hated remembering her past. Despised it with a burning passion, because it just reminded how her life was supposed to be.
“However,” she began to say as she remembered what happened a couple of days, “I did hear that the other packs are getting members as well. Which isn’t particularly good, because of they are getting members, that means Jabez is getting members, which is defiantly not a good thing. If I know my own son...running a pack is something that he normally wouldn’t do.” Breeze stated. For as long as she known her son, he was one who would stray away from being around others, now he was the Alpha of a Pack. She knew he was up to something, something larger then everyone else knew (about taking over Nozomi) but what could it be? He didn’t care about ruling everything, he just cared for power.

"I see...," Kaige replied, seeming to be distracted by something unseen. His weight shifted from one side of his body to the other as he brewed over things to say in his mind. There wasn't a whole lot that he knew about Breeze; it would be best to get to know her, especially since she was one of the Betas. That would begin later, though. For the time being, he needed to focus on getting more members. This pack wouldn't survive for very long with just a couple.
His ears twitched and swiveled around to her direction when she began to speak of the other packs. Eyes narrowing slightly, he muttered something quietly under his breath. 'So... the other packs are growing quite well, are they?' he wondered, his gaze still off on the horizon. 'Things need to pick up around here... I need to come up with something.' Shaking his head, he turned his attention back to Breeze, a frown tugging at the corner of his maw.
"Your son?" he questioned as his eyes narrowed furthermore. He had only come across Jabez once in his life and the meeting was very brief. He remembered it well. It was the night he had helped Kali escape from her other sisters, giving her a body of her own. "It's obvious he's up to no good, then," Kaige said, shaking himself from the past. "We won't brew over that right now, though. I need to come up with a way to get more members and then we can come up with our own plan of action." Whatever the plan would be, Kaige wasn't sure. He was smart, though, and he knew something would have to be made in order to keep control of his part of the territory.

Breeze nodded her head slightly. “Yes, that probably would be the best choice. After all you really can’t get anywhere as a pack without members, huh?” She said though she was only half paying attention to what Kaige was saying. She wasn’t trying to be rude; it was just that her thoughts were currently her son. When Jabez was younger she believed he would do great things, become a great Alpha just like his father – but then something horribly twisted went wrong with his mind and he killed his father and now was practically trying to destroy his own mother. However, Breeze no longer cared for her son, after all for several years she seeked out revenge, she wanted to kill her son, but now she was holding back, it was a waist of her time.
She never thought that it was somehow her fault, she was a good mother. She taught her son and her two daughters the way of the world. Her daughters came out fine, or as far as she knew, but Jabez, there was something different in him. He was merciless – even Breeze wouldn’t go out and kill for fun – she had morals and respected other wolves who were evil (sometimes even neutral wolves) however Jabez turned on his own father without a hint of remorse or sorrow. She grinded her teeth as she thought about it, before she tried to push the thoughts away. There was no use in dwelling upon the past, what done was done. Riztic was dead; she would never see him again. She was over it. Why should she care? It wasn’t as if she was actually in love with him, but if she didn’t care, why did she want revenge?
“Do you have any ideas?” Breeze asked him, trying to get rid of her thoughts. She knew Kaige probably had no idea how they could get more members, but she wasn’t quite sure what else she was going to say. “Never mind, if you did have any ideas, you would say them now, huh?” She paused for a moment, letting the silence drag on, as her eyes gazed out ahead of her. The next time she spoke, she wasn’t looking at Kaige. “I hope that more members join soon – before something bad happens.”

"Right...," Kaige said in reply, though he seemed distracted. His crimson eyes glazed over as he stared out into the horizon, pondering over ways to get members. In all honesty, there really wasn't anything that he could do to get the roaming wolves to join. He would just have to wait and obtain his patience, which was something he was increasingly growing better at. Good things came to those who were patient after all, right? He would wait it out and see if this statement was true.
"No ideas," he said, bringing himself back into reality as he focused on Breeze once again. "Forgive me for being terrible at this. I haven't held this type of powers in decades. I'm rusty another time around." He laughed half-heartedly, but there was no humor detected within in. "Have faith, I suppse," he mused with a short nod. "Someone will come along sooner or later and others will follow like a herd of sheep."
He thought it over in his mind and decided he would settle with that answer for the time being; he would focus on getting to know Breeze better since he hardly knew anything about her. "So," he spoke up, placing his full attention on her, "why don't you tell me about yourself?" he asked. "You can leave out things you do not wish to speak off. I'd just like to know my only Beta better, if you don't mind."

Breeze slowly nodded her head at his words. He was right after all, what could they do to make members join? It wasn’t as if they could go out there and ask wolves to join – that would just seem like they were desperate, which wouldn’t be good at all. She took a deep breath, they would just have to wait and see what would come. “You’re not bad,” Breeze said blinking as she looked up at him, “I understand – I actually haven’t really been a part of a pack in what seems like forever ago.”
She sucked in her breath when he asked her the question. She wasn’t offended, after all how could you trust someone in helping you run a pack if you had no idea about them? She just wasn’t sure if she really wanted to reopen her past, then again, she really didn’t mind. She shook her head. “No, I don’t mind. It’s just that I never really spoke about my past, except for maybe pieces here and there.” She told him in a slow voice. She paused for a moment, almost as if she wasn’t going to speak, but then finally she stated. “Well, I was born over 300 years ago. I’m not old, I’m immortal. My parents were Gods, making me the Goddess of the Wind, but I don’t really care if I was or not. I was the fourth child and first born female of my parents. I didn’t really get along with anyone else; I spent most of my years alone or other evil wolves. It wasn’t long before I met my mate, Riztic; he was perfect – evil and powerful wrapped up in one. We started a grand pack filled with lots of wolves. It was a while later before I had my three children. Jabez, Maliheh, and ElAheh. Everything was fine, until Jabez –“She paused for a moment. She felt as though she was reliving the memory.
“He killed Riztic, I’m not sure why. For a while I tried to seek revenge that was all I wanted – however I decided a while ago it was a waist of time. Killing Jabez won’t bring Riztic back. Jabez has been causing trouble for as long as I can. He is the worst that I’ve seen. I probably should be proud of him, but I hate him. I don’t know why, but I hate him.” Breeze let out a small laugh, however it was fake, and she was slightly amused by this. Jabez was her son and yet she hated him, she hated him just as much as she hated that slut Kisha. However Kisha was probably long gone by now, only Jabez was still alive. “So I wandered around a bit after I gave my revenge ways and well here I am. I guess it’s kind of a boring story…so Kaige. What is your story? What brings you to this land?” She asked him, if she was going to talk, then he should too.

"There's no need to lie. I know I'm not doing the best that I can," Kaige replied, snorting softly. He was rather disappointed with himself. He had been an Alpha before and things went moderately all right; why did he doubt himself so much this time around? He was quite sure he knew what the answer was, but he didn't want to be bothered by it. If he didn't care then, why should he care now? Had he been lying to himself all along?
He held a solemn expression and remained silent as Breeze spoke of her past, listening intently as he had asked her about herself. Why ask if he had no intentions of listening? However, he couldn't help but let his thoughts wander and let the memories come flooding back into his mind, playing out right before his eyes. It wasn't that he wasn't listening to Breeze - for he really was - it was just that the things she was speaking of reminded him of things in his past. They weren't exactly the same, but they were close enough to remind him.
"I'm sorry to hear about those things," he replied when she was finished, his crimson gaze holding something odd and quite different. "I suppose we've all got a darker side to our pasts," he said, speaking more to himself than to her. He shook his head when she asked about him. It was something he would rather forget, but even when he wasn't thinking about past things, they always managed to make an appearance. "My story is long and dull. Let's just say I was born with this wonderful power that caused the destruction of most of my family and pack mates when I was younger," he said, sounding partially sarcastic. "Years of roaming the lands soon followed after that, but I never really settled down in a pack. There was one female, Velia, whom I thought I loved, but I guess she had other plans. After she took off on me, I went off on my own again," he said, reliving those times from the past, which was so long ago.
"Eventually, I ended up on a strange island of some sort and soon afterwards had my own pack. There was another female, Shinrin. We became mates, and she just kind of.. took off like the first one. Then there was another one, one that was more.. fitting for me, I guess you could say." He shrugged, ignoring the odd feeling he currently felt. "Things seemed to be going just fine with Kali and I until Shinrin showed up once more. Let's just say I acted like a real jack ass, but I still managed to keep Kali." A frown tugged at the corner of his maw and a cold, empty feeling began to take over. "But things just fell apart and I left the pack I ran - and the land - and went back to roaming. A life of solitude seemed just fine with me." He paused for a short while, turning his gaze elsewhere.
"Low and behold, a few years later I ran into Kali again in this place. We talked for awhile and eventually became a pair again. I guess things were better the second time around. She had four pups - Doom, Dedrallow, Crimson and Michiko, some of the foulest little things I've ever seen excluding Michiko; she was probably my pride and joy. I regret not getting to spend a lot of time with her. There was drama in the middle due to two her sisters, yadda yadda yadda, I made things better." He paused once more, feeling like he was just dragging on and on. "I'm almost done," he said, tossing a quick glance in Breeze's direction. "Anyway, the one wolf who had planned the destruction of my family and pack mates so long ago somehow managed to find me, and what do you know; he wanted to kill me, too." Kaige snorted at that, almost laughing out loud though there was nothing amusing about it.
"He killed me and I killed him, but that second mate of mine, Shinrin, brought me back to life. I wasn't too happy about it until I remembered Kali. I set off to find her and she had apparently moved on. We were no longer a pair and we lost contact after awhile," he said, leaving out most of the stuff in the middle. "She's dead now and here I am, back where it all started." He shook his head and smirked slightly. "I'm done now, I promise. But you asked, so..." He let his sentence drift off as he fell silent, refusing to go over the things that were playing in the shadows of his mind.

Breeze vaguely listened as Kaige spoke. She only asked him about his past, because he asked her about hers; however she was kind of curious to know more about her Alpha. She nodded her head slowly as she listened to him as he spoke. So, he had a crappy life after all, probably almost as bad as hers. However Breeze only had one mate, while he had three. It seemed as if luck wasn’t on their side, she wasn’t even sure if she ever had luck in her life which lasted for a long time – because it felt like once she was finally content with her life – something came and snatched it away.
“I see,” she said speaking in a rather low voice when he was done talking, “it seems as if we’re not too different – Kaige. Well, I guess there is a lesson to all this – falling in love is a bad mistake.” She said turning and looking at him. The words came out of her mouth without her being able to stop herself. Falling in love is a mistake? Sure, she knew it, but she spoke as if she was actually in love with Riztic. She wasn’t, she wouldn’t allow herself that. She cleared her throat. “The past is in the past that is all behind us and yet…” She frowned when she thought about Jabez. “Somehow the past keeps coming back. Like my son for example, I just wish he would leave me alone…no matter how hard he tries, it’s not like he can kill me, but it’s not like he can’t make my life miserable.”
She couldn’t die, she would never die. Being a Goddess was different then being immortal. Immortals could die, it was just that time stood still for them, but there was ways to destroy that. Being a Goddess, it was impossible to kill them, even other Gods and Goddess could not destroy each other. It wasn’t as if Breeze was all powerful. No, there was ways to hurt her. There was several ways to hurt a Goddess; it wasn’t as if she was some spirit being who couldn’t be touched. “I just wish the past would leave me alone.” She closed her eyes as a breeze went through her fur; she gradually opened them and looked at Kaige. “Don’t you? Doesn’t part if you wish that you could just forget your past? Even if you have to give up the somewhat happy moments?”

Hearing her say that falling in love was a bad mistake caused him to both snort and laugh humorlessly, resulting in an odd noise. "I don't necessarily think love is a mistake," he said after a moment of recovery. "Sometimes you just make the wrong choices, but you learn from them." He paused shortly and thought over what he had just said. "Well... you usually learn from them. I know I haven't - not completely, anyway." Maybe if things had gone right the first time with Kali, perhaps none of the things that had happened in the past would have taken place; but he was foolish in thinking about that.
"Well...," he began, having listened to what she had said, "sometimes you just have to deal with things whether you want to or not." It would have been wise for him to take his own advice. This time around he would do the same things he did when he was an Alpha for the first time. He had learned from those mistakes and while he would make mistakes this time around as well, he was going to do whatever he could to be the best of the best. Failure was not going to happen on his watch; not this time. He focused on Breeze once more, frowning slightly at what she had asked.
"I used to wish that, yes," he replied slowly, taking time to think over his answer. "But now I'm over it. I could care less. If I had the ability to go back in time and try to change some of the things that had happened... I wouldn't," he answered, being quite honest. It had taken him awhile to finally come to that answer, but he had realized something. "Things happen for a reason, whether they're good or bad. You can't change something just because you don't like the way it went out. You just have to move on in life," he said, finally realizing that that was what he needed to do. This was a different time and even though he was still in the same area, it was a different place. "It's time to start over," he said with a nod, speaking more to himself than to Breeze.

Breeze slightly frowned at what he said, but thought about it for a few moments. Love not a mistake? How could that be? Her life wouldn’t be like this if she hadn’t meant Riztic. She would have been…well she wasn’t quite sure where, but her life would be better then this right? She would be her old self again, right? Yet, she wasn’t sure. For some odd reason part of her deep inside was glad that she met Riztic, and would do it all again if she could. “Maybe…” She said in a low voice, “you’re right…” it was difficult for her to say, she was basically declaring to him and to herself that she was in love with Riztic. “Maybe, you’re right.” She said again in a louder voice.
“You’re right about that, seems like nothing goes out exactly what you had in mind.” Breeze stated. Her life had gone the complete opposite of what she imagined. She imagined she would find a mate that fitted her, they would start a pack, have children, and cause ciaos – however it didn’t turn out that way. At first it did, but then it all changed when Jabez was born. She saw something in his eyes, but she ignored it, she ignored the signs, she could of protected Riztic, but in the end she didn’t. How was she supposed to know that this was going to happen? How was she supposed to know that he would kill his own father?
“Things happen for a reason?” Breeze asked him with a tilt of her head. She turned and looked away from him and took a deep breath. “If that is true, then I don’t know why it happened. As for now, perhaps I wouldn’t want to erase my past, but yet then again I don’t.” She shook her head. “I’m not quite sure what I would do if I was given the choice, but I never will, so I might as well move on, which I already have. Even if...” her sentence faded away, she was going to say Even if my son was here” but the words faded off.

"Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. It all depends on your opinion, I suppose," Kaige replied, focusing on a withering flower that moved lifelessly in the warm wind that blew through. He felt scatterbrained and out of sorts, unsure of why these feelings were overcoming him. He had a vague idea why, but he decided to ignore it and focus on other things. "Of course things aren't going to go the way one expects them to," he said a moment later, frowning in thought. "We make assumptions on how something will be and when it doesn't turn out right, well, we're disappointed." He knew that far too well.
"That's why I don't fool around with that stuff anymore. I just take things as they are and deal with them." He snorted quietly and shook his head. "You can't expect things to go your way." He fell silent after that, brooding over the many thoughts that swam throughout his clouded mind. He was soon lost in his own world, almost seeming unconscious in an odd sort of way. He didn't resurface until Breeze spoke again, causing him to jump slightly. "Yes, things do happen for a reason otherwise they wouldn't happen," he said after a moment of recovery. "We may not like why they happen, but they do and have to. The world would be an utterly dull place if things went everyone's way."

Breeze listened intently to what Kaige had to say. She never crossed paths with someone who thought the way he did. It was intriguing. Before she would have laughed and walked away, but for some strange reason, everything that he said had made perfect since, which made Breeze slightly confused about her own feelings about her past and wasn’t sure how to think of it no more. “I guess you are right about that, we can’t decide what our future brings.” She said with a soft sigh. She hated to admit he was right, after all, but shouldn’t she have some say? Being a Goddess and all? Obviously not.
“Yeah, I guess that would be the smart thing to do. Not try to change anything, just go with the flow – that is kind of what I’m doing now…before…all that I wanted was revenge.” She said with a small sigh. She had wasted several years wanting revenge; however it wasn’t really that bad, seeing as she was immortal, she had more then enough years ahead of her. “Things should go for you once in a while, but it seems as if more bad things happen, then good.” She told him with a small sigh.

"No, we can't," Kaige replied with a partially bitter tone. "And some of us are lucky enough to see what will happen in our futures." His voice was now full of sarcasm and his crimson eyes darkened in color as if a shadow had passed over them. Of course, he couldn't really see everything that would happen in the future; there were only glimpses of his every once in a blue moon. He despised when that happened. Not only did he get to see a 'surprise, he also got a great dose of pain. His power wasn't one that he enjoyed.
"It would be the smart thing to do," he said, breaking the silence that had been hovering around them. "And besides, if you were to alter something in your past something else could happen instead. Changing one thing would change your entire past and it would most likely end up in tragedy." He paused momentarily to think over that. "Well, maybe.. you never know. I guess it doesn't matter."
